“On-Ice Simulation/Mock Judging & Off-Ice Feedback/Education”
Exton Edge coaches are pleased to offer a Competition Readiness Clinics in January:
Monday, January 20 from 3:30-4:35pm (on-ice) and 4:50-5:20 (off-ice) education
This year, the Pennsylvania (Keystone) State Games will be held in York, PA on February 22-23, 2025. This is an Olympic-Style event complete with Opening Ceremonies including a Torch/Flag Skate, Parade of Athletes with Club Banners, National Anthem, and Ceremonious Bell Ringing. The State Games of America, which includes dozens of sports, will be held in July 2025 in State College, PA and the Pennsylvania State Games will be the qualifier for this event. It is rare that this nationwide competition comes so close to us, and we think it would be a great experience for the competitors to participate and try to qualify for the State Games of America. It is also a chance for club-wide team building, motivation/encouragement, and to get our skater out on a bigger stage.
Skaters competing in events Excel Preliminary Plus and above will be judged IJS, while Basic Skills, Aspire, and Excel Pre-Preliminary and Preliminary will be judged 6.0.
These upcoming clinics are a great opportunity for skaters competing at the Pennsylvania State Games in February to get feedback on their programs and still have over a month to make any adjustments in hopes of having the opportunity to qualify to the State Games of America.
Skaters will be split into warm-up groups based on level and go through a competition simulation. Skaters will wear their costumes, get a randomly drawn starting order, have a warm-up for the same amount of time as in competition, and perform their program (on the ice solo) in front of our coach “judges”.
After the simulation, skaters can change out of their skates/costumes and we will meet upstairs for an educational session. Each skater will receive individual feedback on their program elements and suggestions for strengthening their performance for the best chance at medaling (and thus qualifying) for the Games. There will also be group feedback on commonly seen areas of improvement and more explanation on how the judging system works.
Parents are welcome to watch the simulation (it gives the skaters an audience, which is more representative of a true competition) and to join for the education session.
Please talk to your skater’s coach(es) to confirm that their program is ready to participate BEFORE signing up.
